This "Celestron VistaPix 8x32 2.0 Megapixel Binocular / Digital Camera" has decent optics and is actually a fairly nice set of casual or backup set of binoculars for watching wildlife in the backyard or taking on hikes. The integrated 2mp digital camera is functional and easy to use, but with the low image quality it really is only useful as a way to take "memento" pictures of places and things you saw through the binocular (see sample picture in "Customer Images"). Here are my observations:Pros - + Good Optical Quality; the binoculars are clear and crisp + Easy to Use; the LCD menu display is simplistic and easy to navigate + Is A Camera; while not fantastic, it DOES have a built in digital camera + Takes SD Cards; it does have 8mb of internal memory, but it also takes SD cardsCons - - Marginal Image Quality; the 2mp image is only good enough for "reminder" pictures - Poor Low Light Image Quality; the photos get very grainy in lower light situations - Plastic Construction; the body is mostly plastic, giving me concerns about the long term durability of the battery compartment doorMisc - * Comes with a Neck Strap (attached), Software CD (which I didn't need to install), USB Cable (which I didn't use since it takes SD cards), and a protective sleeve * Takes 2xAAA batteries, not included * "Hi-Res" pictures are approx 400kb - 500kb in file size (I haven't even tried the "Low-Res" mode)It should be mentioned that the list price for these is way too much, but they do go on "deep discount" Gold Box sales occasionally (where I got mine).Recommended, with the above caveats.CFH

Good for long distance sports

I found this Item to be good for Horse races , Baseball games , and things that are a good distance from you but the action will all happen in frame. There is a delay in pushing the button and taking the picture that you have to get used to. timing it , but you can really get some good shots once you get a custome to it. To hope for the best timing on short actions , like a pitch the multi frame function works best. If you are within 100 ft. of were the action is use a digital camera.

Combining a pair of binoculars with a digital camera is a brilliant idea with endless possibilities, with useful applications from birdwatchers documenting their greatest "catches" to parents zooming in on their kids on the playing field. Unfortunately, Bushnell’s Imageview digital binoculars, which integrate digital imaging into a pair of 10x25 binoculars, may be ahead of their time. The image quality of the binoculars isn’t a problem, as they employ clear optics that allow for sharp focusing at the fixed 10x zoom level. Build quality also is good, with thick rubber coating on the sides to ensure a good grip and fold-down rubber eyecups to accommodate eyeglass wearers. The small 25mm objective lenses, however, don’t provide substantial light-gathering but do keep the design as small and light as possible The built-in camera will be the real problem for most users. It uses a low-resolution CCD that snaps pictures at a fixed resolution of 640 x 480, which is fine for e-mail but not adequate for making prints. To make matters worse, most of the shots we took were grainy, with lots of compression artifacts and subpar color. If you can live with those limitations, the camera does have the benefits of ease of use and plenty of image-storaging capacity. With 8 MB of built-in memory, we snapped nearly 150 pictures before connecting the camera to a PC. No image preview is available, but a basic black-and-white LCD display on top of the camera tells you how many pictures you’ve snapped and the selected mode. No updated drivers

The binoculars worked fine, but I have no idea how the cameral worked. We have 3 computers (laptops) with 3 different operating systems - windows 2000, vista & windows 7. The drivers provided on the CD would not work with any of these. I called Bushnell & was told that there were no available updates. So unless you have a very old computer, I wouldn't buy this model.

Not what you expect from Bushnell

Excellent idea but Bushnell really fell down on the job with this one. My fiance bought this used for $10.00 and now I'm glad she didn't pay anymore for them. It's my job to figure out any new gadgets she gets so I went to Bushnell's site first and after some browsing, I found the binoculars and there was a manual available in PDF (it shows the camera functions only) but no drivers to be found. Luckily the disc she got with the purchase worked!! She has Photoshop already so all I installed were the drivers from the CD onto her XP Pro computer. There is absolutely NO DOCUMENTATION on how to get the pictures off the camera so I opened Photoshop and used import and sure enough Bushnell was there. I clicked on it and the Bushnell software came up but it's a "by guess and by gosh" process to figure out how to transfer the pictures from the camera into Photoshop. Once transferred, I checked image size and it was 640x480 at 1mp per inch, so scenery is visible but I have my doubts as to small animals etc. Another thing that irritated me was that I couldn't get the 2 sides of the binoculars close enough together to get a good view, in other words I had to look through 1 lens at a time. I've never had that problem with a pair of binoculars before. Bushnell has always been a good name but they sure couldn't prove it with this product. Buyer BEWARE!!!!!!!

The driver disk that I have will not work anymore, so I figured that I could download it online. However, it is not available anywhere for download. Now I am stuck with a product that is useless to me. Do not waste your money on this or any other Bushnell product, customer support is non-existent!

Unfortunatly when I opened the box and attempted to use the new device it did not work. Only the non electronic standard binocular portion functioned properly.All the electronic portions were totally inoperable. I have since contacted the company to get a working model but have not heard anything back as of yet.I am hoping they will provide me with a model that actually operates. Bulkier Than Expected, Hard-to-Use Buttons, & Arrived Defective

I'd hoped to provide one, but sadly, my binoculars arrived brand new with a major defect: the display will turn on only intermittently, the binoculars won't turn off without taking the batteries out, and I've only been able to take one picture before the device's electronics stopped working.PROS: what a great idea these are--if only they'd work properly. Excluding the electronics, the binoculars themselves are of quality construction and work very nicely with an easy-to-use focusing dial.CONS: I received a defective model which makes me question the reliability of ANY model--strange, since Bushnell has a name synonymous with quality. I apologize that for that reason, I can't speak well to the picture-taking ability of the binoculars. I took one picture which turned out well and generally seemed aligned to my field of sight (I didn't notice any major parallax issue). But: the display flashed erratically and then would no longer turn on. I'm generally tech-savvy and tried to reset the binoculars several times, but to no avail. This after opening the package for the first time! I also noticed that the buttons to operate the display are quite difficult to push--they require a very firm push, and as they're very close together, it's easy to push the wrong button. For the brief moments it worked, I found the menu screen somewhat difficult--each screen selection requires that you cycle through to an "exit" selection which makes the menu more time-consuming and annoying to scroll through. Also, I found that these binoculars are heavier and slightly bulkier than expected--they certainly aren't as "pocket-sized" as some descriptions assert. And in taking a picture, there's (ridiculously?) no indication that you've taken it as you look through the binoculars; only the push of the button, no indicator sound. I would be very weary of purchasing these again as I question a product that's defective out of the box with no indication of physical damage.BOTTOM LINE: The model I received was defective--the electronics, particularly the display--would not turn on or off correctly but for once. The one picture I was able to take looked okay, but was interrupted by faulty electronics. I anticipated quality from a Bushnell product, but now I'm weary. I'm afraid that unfortunately, our binocular-camera technology just isn't up to par yet!

Extremely Satisfied

I was unsure what binocular camera to purchase, but I did some research and found out that 8X30 and Bushnell were pretty safe bets and I was not let down. I was so excited when I received the product from 123. It arrived in three days (a day earlier than the earliest estimated delivery date) and in perfect condition. I took it out on my hike to test it out worried about blurry or low quality pictures and I was not disappointed. The pictures came out beautifully...here's a tip...take a breath and hold it when you are taking the picture and hold still for a second or two while holding down the button while taking the picture. The came out great! I am so ready to take it with me on my vacation to Newfoundland and Labrador...I can get great pics without being mauled by a moose! LOL...I have never used another set of binocular camera so I can not judge against any other pair, but it definitly has better zoom than a standard digital camera. I would highly recommend this product and this seller! I couldn't have asked for a better buying experience.

Much more comfortable than the strap that came with my Canon SLR, and I like that it doesn't have CANON all over it. I've only used it for a short time, so I can't speak to the durability, but so far I am very happy with this neck strap.

Too small to function

MISREPRESENTATION

This Camera strap by Opteka is far too short. It doesn't even come close to my old Tamarack strap in length.Unlike my old strap, I cannot put it over head and through arm comfortably. It squeezes below and into my arm pit and I am not a heavy person, wearing size medium shirts. It also doesn't have quick releases so that I could have added on an extender, which itself would be a rip off since I thought I was paying for a normal size strap and this would encumber an additional expense. How can I return this strap if I've lost the original packaging ?

Don't bother

if you actually would like to use the camera. I purchased this item directly from Amazon as "Used-very good". Silly me. I received it promptly, decently or appropriately packaged but that's about it. Received the unit and it's carrying case. No user guide and no software, which of course seems impossible to find anywhere online. Software is important on this item because that seems to be the only way to set it up: image size, save location, date, & other preferences, etc. Lucky thing, I bought a 2MB disk to save images too, oh, wait a minute, camera seems to be saving images internally & removing disk seems to wipe test images, even when unit is turned off. Plugging USB connector results in drive errors, both on mac & PC. Good thing Amazon cust svc is there to save the day. Got my RMA, they'll "allow me" to return it & I may get my refund in 4 weeks. SUPER!Point - do not bother with Amazon used items. They do not test them for whether the item functions accordingly & do not provide a listing of what is included. You are MUCH better off taking your chances on eBay. Needless to say, I am very disappointed in Amazon's cust svc as well. Calling Cust SVc connects you to a non-US based rep the majority of the time & the language barriers only add to the frustration. Wouldn't it be nice to have relevant reps for the country from which a customer is calling to lessen communication problems. Oh wait, a company the size of Amazon wouldn't be able to afford that to service their customers.

Great reliable product

I purchased this digital binocular over five years ago and love it. Takes great pictures and mini videos. Make sure to remove batteries when not in use because it can accidentally turn on when in case which results in dead batteries. Also has a tendancy to shut off if you aren't taking pictures so check before next shot. Otherwise its a 5 star product. Great item for a great price ! Wish Bushnell would come out with a waterproof -fogproof digital camera model.

Great binoculars, Not so great camera

I read the reviews on Amazon before and after buying this binoculars/camera combo. The optics of the binoculars are absolutely amazing and incredible. So clear and crisp. Worth the price I paid for it alone. But I really had higher expectations for the camera, as that was the primary reason for buying this, for my birdwatching. You have to be a good distance away from the subject to get any kind of good, clear pictures, which is possible. If it's anywhere closer than 49 feet (as stated in the manual), the subject in the pictures will be quite blurry and fuzzy. Unfortunately, my plan was to use the binoculars to see the birds in my front yard better and to capture/record them, but they were less than 49 feet away, apparently. The video quality is quite grainy/pixelated and small. Overall, I'm very happy with the binoculars, just not so much with the camera. If only you could capture exactly what you see through these great binoculars...

Poor. Just poor. Update: even poorer!

The binoculars are OK as binoculars, but are heavy and bulky with so-so eye relief and clarity. The camera menus on mine are in Asian characters and cannot be switched to English, Spanish, etc. The camera functions are therefore useless unless you can read Kanji. Or whatever. The display flickers and shows a low battery indication on two sets of brand-new batteries. The central focus dial is loose. Need I go on? This is a very poor quality item and ludicrously overpriced. Bushnell -or whomever owns the brand- should be ashamed.Update: Apparently Bushnell has no shame. The DOA binoculars were returned to Kansas for repair at my expense along with a ten-dollar check to cover their return shipping. Another 20.oo invested.Weeks later, a box appeared with a loosely packed and grubby model 118322 ImageView refurb rattling around inside. This is a cheaper, inferior model with no popup color viewing screen. The terse note enclosed tells me this is the closest model to mine, which is out of stock.The binocular optics are terrible with a fairly clear center and horrible blurring at the edge of your field of view. The center focus is gritty. The camera produces very poor image quality. It is slow to respond when taking a picture and therfore prone to blur.This is my last Bushnell purchase, period.

Fantastic up close photos and great binocular

These are great binoculars! The binoculars are of the quality you would expect from Bushnell. The digital cameera is fantastic. We went to Alaska and now hav wonderful up close photos af whales, eagles and a rarely seen black fox. Also we now have a wonderful close-up of Ichiro blown up and posted in our son's bedroom. The one downside is you have to hold it steady. Some of the photos in Alaska were taken while rafting and they were blurred. We aren't big bird watcher fans....but I imagine this would be fantastic for bird watchers! Great Binoculars! I highly recommend purchasing a gig or more storage card as you will need it for lots of photos. Download and working with the photos are a snap. This was fun and a great product.

The second time I used it, two different pieces of the battery section, including the cover, broke: the metal sprial thing for one end of the battery just fell out when I opened the battery section; and the cover prong just broke off. Man, what a waste of $[...] plus dollars, and what a dissapointment.I bought it to look at birds. Well, unless the bird is five feet in front of you, you can forget about it.

This neck strap is not 15.5" long as the description says, you are supposed to measure these like you'd measure a necklace. It's a little over 32" long and if this doesn't fit over your head, you must have a head like Frankenstein's. It's slightly under 1/8" wide, and made of braided plastic. It's very strong, it holds my heaviest digital camera and I'm not worried it will break. Targus is a good name brand for camera accessories.My only complaint is I look like a tourist when I use it, but it sure beats carrying a camera by the wrist strap, accidentally letting go of it, and ruining a $200.00 camera.

Perfect Thumb Drive Lanyard

I picked up three of these to use as lanyards for thumb drives, and they're essentially perfect. It seems strong and secure, and fits over the head easily. I'm not sure it's a five star item as a camera neck strap though, since a camera weighs more than a thumb drive, and the camera's weight *might* cause more irritation than with a flat strap.

I bought one of these for my 11-year-old sons new mp3 player. I was sure that if he didn't have a neck strap for it, he would be more likely to drop it / break it. Sure enough, the mp3 player seems to have survived a whole week without being broken, thanks to this Targus strap. However, be aware it has a small square metal part near the top which, if you're not careful, has the tendancy to scratch the surface of whatever you attach it to. Apparently this scratching can happen if you put the Targus strap, and the device it is attached to, in your pants pocket. The metal "clasp" is not in any way rough or sharp, but it is metal therefore it has the potental to scratch any polished surface (like the LCD screen of an mp3 player).

I thought I was taking a chance on ordering this, as it says it is 15.5". I thought it should be measured like necklaces, in which case it would be closer to 32" in length. But since it doesn't open up like a necklace-- it's a continuous loop-- I guess the 15.5" is technically accurate. In any event, it is a neck strap, not a wrist strap and it will fit over the average size head easily. It fits over my big head.It looks very well made and Targus has been making stuff for awhile, so I personally trust the brand and expect the company to stand behind it. It's lightweight but appears sturdy and I feel confident my subcompact point and shoot digital is secure hanging around my neck on this strap. At first I thought a quick release would be nice, but then thought nah, that's just one more thing that can go wrong, a weak link in an otherwise secure retention system.

Vivitar Binocular camera

The binoculars & camera work great, the software to transfer photos to my computer does not work. It would be a better product if the camera had a memory chip. The chip would work just like any camera chip to download. I already had Arcsoft Photo 5.0 on my computer, downloaded the CD w/ the 4.0 version as well & still could not transfer photos as it would not recognize the camera & download.

Waste of Money!!

I bought this on sale at CVS thinking it would be fun for taking nature photos, but it is a total piece of garbage. Aside from the fact that all the photos get erased every time you replace the batteries, the pics come out blurry and distorted. Don't waste your time or money!

My husband has got this piece of garbage for 25$ on sale.I wasn't too excited even just looking at it first,but decided to try.Well the LCD display is not useful.You need to remember all the options or take the manual with U all the time.Second: U can't really hear when the camera is actually shooting.Well,I've tried all the options that the manual gives u.And I was still hoping,maybe the pics will be ok...Fool I am ).They were not even close to the word "OK".Even with the camera absolutely still(I put it down on the surface) the pics were blurry.Not even talking about holding it in your hands.I thought maybe I'll leave it to use just as a binocular,but no,I can get something better for this price.Because the camera part makes this small binocular heavy. So I'm returning it after one day of use.My advise: DO NOT BUY IT.
