Nikon Birding Binoculars

Would you consider that a good birding day trip out of town?

What is my hobby. Could lead to a group of novice birders. I have two small charter / tour bus. "My big bus' 25 seats and has a trunk. It has tv / dvd and upgraded seats and sound evidence. My bus seat smaller than 21 if not for the wheelchair lift. No tv / dvd and base vinyl seat model 14 plus 2 wheelchairs. A seat is folded to be 12 +3. I'm about 30 miles from New York. During the week, the smallest is in the service for a good contract. The larger is used to make cards and travel 4-5 days a week. For more, I want to bring people from the city to enjoy picking fruit and warehouse about 40 miles north of here. There are several good bird sanctuaries in the region. I know some well and others quite well. Do you think that the urban population would be interested in this type of day trips? I would also like to buy 3-4 pairs of binoculars Nikon 80-100 $ for passengers to borrow. Sounds interesting? Thanks for your input.

I suggest that bird watching is an activity of the club, instead of a weekend trip. It is likely that you can book the birding groups that already have a large amount of equipment. But you may need to be learned in their local area, but you can advertise specifically that group. I think the angle of the photograph can be. Many people have bought digital SLR and want to take good pictures. So to get people in travel, teaching about photographic techniques, then go out and do bird watching and taking pictures with his own team, it would be interesting.

binoculars for the price

by GF binoguy from Midwest on 2009-07-15
The Nikon Action 8X40 is the Binos that I recommend to people. The Bak4 prisms are sharp and rarely used on binos at this price point. I have expensive binos that are great but people are surprised when I show them the view through these. Have bought as gifts for family members over the years. GF

looks great, price outstanding, delivery quick

by Al A. Carrasco from on 2009-06-03
I purchased for football games and general outdoor use. I have not used them yet, but looking through the lenses at trees in a distance I can't believe how clear the picture is. Much clearer than from my naked eye! These are so clear and crisp that it makes me feel that I should start wearing glasses so I could improve my site and vision. Steiner 7x50 Marine Binocular

These binoculars have excellent visibility, especially in low light. They are extremely clear and easy to use. You get a lot for your money. It's a great product for a low price.

Awesome Binoculars!

by Michael A. Bevan from MBevan on 2009-10-11
I'm not familiar with high end binoculars, I bought these to watch football games from our nose bleed seats. They have excellent clarity, it is amazing the small details you can see, and the fan you can see across the stadium. They seem very durable, everyone is very impressed that uses them. A great buy.

exceptional glass

by Wade C. Flake from on 2009-09-11
After doing some research about binoculars I went with this model because; .great for people who wear glasses (soft eyepiece) .great light gathering (still hunters will love this one) .high enough power to work well, not so high to cause shake .and o my gosh clear ! .it might be a little heavy for hikers .advise to also purchase a Lenspen to clean with .overall it's hard to believe the quality of the product for the price

All I can say is YES!!!

by Rhon Herndon from on 2009-04-29
I have owned other binocs before, but these binocs ROCK!! They are great for being on the boat, especially when the boat is bouncing around on the water. These binocs are not small "pocket sized"...you can hold them with one hand but you need to grip them rather well if you only use one hand. They are pretty wide, but the quality of the view is worth it. These are by far my favorite binocs, and I plan to keep these for the rest of my life.

Good value

by Tony R. Bicknell from Watsonville, CA USA on 2010-08-12
I bought these quite a while back and it still pleases me to use them. They are very light weight, easy to use and have good quality lenses. I'd buy another pair without any doubt if l needed a good travel pair of binoculars.

Good.

by Eduardo Trevino R from McAllen, Texas United States on 2010-06-15
Good set of compact binoculars. Small & light but not as bright as others this size and price range. The Olympus Tracker 10x25 Porro Prism Compact is way brighter, lighter, sharper, and costs a bit less.

Lense Flare

by Paul F. Sterbentz from Mountain View, CA on 2008-01-25
I own the older version of these so I thought this would be a safe bet to give my bird watching sister for Christmas. When she tried them out she complained of a half moon shaped flare in the lower left corner that comprised about 1/3 of the field of view. This was evident any time the binoculars were pointed within 90 degrees of the sun. My older Nikon binoculars do not exhibit this if pointed in the exact same direction. She tried two copies of these (we paid the shipping cost for both returns to B&H)and I am looking for another comparable set in a different brand.

Review of Nikon Travelite V9x25 Binocular

by Patty Smith from Clinton, MA on 2007-01-10
Unfortunately my comments have to focus more on the ingegrity of the packaging vs the actual product. I purchased these binoculars on-line and were intended as a gift for a colleague. The integrity of the box containing the binoculars arrived torn, scuffed, and appeared to have been used or reflect a possible return. The product itself appeared untouched. The product was shipped from a preferred Amazon distributor and not identified as refurbished on the Amazon site. Since this was a gift, I felt the need to have the box replaced. The distributor no longer had any in stock and I had the choice to return without replacement or keep with a credit for freight. Amazon was not able to provide any recourse other than return for credit as it was shipped from a distributor. I chose not to give this product as a gift, therefore I am not able to comment on the quality. I am debating whether or not to return product or give to a family member.

Wow!

by CT12F3 from Boulder, CO on 2006-07-17
I will skip the technical mumbo jumbo and focus on the experience of using these binoculars. When I first picked these up, I was surprised and pleased at how light and comfortable they were in my hands. My pleasure remained and my surprise quickly turned to amazement when I brought them to my glasses (Yes, I wear glasses and no, I did not take them off to try them out. I use them with my glasses on - very nice!). WOW! Beautiful color and pristine field of view - from the left of the lenses to the right the of the lenses. I did not know such a wonderful image could be seen through binoculars. Images seen are crystal clear and higher detail than what can be seen with the naked eye (or in my world - through glasses). This is true from the closest focused items to the furthest focused object. (I looked at weeds ~15' away and on the weeds I could see grains of dirt not seen with the unaided eye. Also the weeds were more distinguished than with the unaided eye. I turned to look at some nearby mountains and I clearly saw eagles riding thermals that I could not see without the binoculars). The focus knob is easy to use, they are very easy on the eyes, the price is reasonable, and I even like the color. These would make a fine gift for most any age group and for most user levels. These binoculars are spectacular. WOW!

Amazing binoculars, Sharp, Small package, Top quality!!!

by N. Goranov from Ft. Myers, FL USA on 2009-07-25
I purchased the Zeiss Victory 10x25 and the Nikon Premier LX-L 10x25 so I can tell which one I liked more. I kept the Nikon. Reasons: Made in Japan vs. Made in Hungary. The Nikon comes in real high quality leather case. Zeiss comes in a vinyl. The Nikon has more solid feel, smoother focus. Both feel good and easy to work with. Brightness is very similar. Both boost air tight optics and hi-tech lens coatings. The Zeiss is a little lighter, but - the Nikon is SHARPER. Took them both on a trip to the Grand Canyon so I could explore the binoculars' qualities in probably the best place on Earth to do it. IMHO the Nikon beats the Zeiss. Nikon is cheaper too. So it was no brainer.

Small and sturdy

by jettrink from Oregon on 2008-05-17
These binoculars are as small as opera glasses and weigh about the same, but they have a solid, trustworthy density about them.Their optics are crystal like and as for ease of use, I can easily find and focus on circling hawks with these little beauties.Years ago I had a pair of Trinovid binoculars. These Nikons are so much easier to use and so much sharper, there's no comparison.

Versatile Binoculars

by N. Rogers from San Antonio, TX, USA on 2008-03-27
I have used these binoculars in the Amazon jungle, the Galapagos Islands, at a political rally, and several Spurs games. I find them perfect for me because they are a compromise of size and magnification. I don't like to carry heavy binoculars and usually opt to leave them behind. These are light enough to be taken along and powerful enough to be beneficial in the diverse situations I listed above.

Love at first sight

by Thomas F. White from San Francisco, Ca USA on 2006-04-27
I have been a Nikon fan all my life, and I was not disappointed with these binoculars. These binoculars blew me away. Wonderful, amazing optical quality. So compact and light. I know I will cherish this instrument for the rest of my life. Nikon, thankyou, once again. Tom

Stiener Binoculars 8 X 30 Marine

by Todd Keller from Jax, Fl on 2009-02-19
I was very disapppointed by the poor quality optics of these binoculars. Steiner has a supberb reputation but eidently they are producing a low quality product at this level to get to a low price point. Typically steiner sells at twice this price so the old adage "you get what you pay for" is true in this case. The optics on the Bushnell or Nikkon at half the price are as good or better. Don't be fooled by the Steiner name on this model.

Shop the rest, buy the best, Steiner can't be beat.

by C. Bond from Texas, USA on 2007-11-24
I spent weeks looking for the best set of binoculars for hunting and work. I have found that some have a better warranty such as Nikon but, I could not pass on the Steiners. I have used Steiners at work for years and they hold up well to abuse and will probably last a life time if handled under normal conditions. I hunt year round and love the fact once the eye pieces are set I don't have to change them. I can see from 20 feet to infinity without adjustment.

Superb!

by J. S. from Austin, TX USA on 2003-12-10
"Absolutely astonishing optical performance" is the advertisement - and it rings true. Couldn't believe the difference when compared to Nikon Naturalist IV 7x35 (endorsed by the National Audubon Society). Both are comparable weight, but for twice the price of the Nikon, you get an order of magnitude more clarity & brightness. Remarkable! Only drawback is the lack of central focusing. The individual eyepieces require frequent adjustment for anything closer than 25 yards. This binocular is a keeper!

Extremely rugged and an overall good value...

by Kurtis J. Jones from Russellville, AR United States on 2003-06-25
This binocular is seems extremely well constructed and rugged. The image quality is good (though not great). The sport focus system does not really work from 20 yards out (as advertised). It's fairly sharp from 70 yards or so out, but I've found I have to re-focus for the 20-70 yard range. The focus mechanism is fairly stiff, so it does stay put once focused. Despite the minor shortcomings, this binocular was exactly what I was looking for - lightweight, rugged, decent image, reasonable price.

A Genuine Bargain

by J. Strawbridge from Florida on 2010-01-13
I've owned a number of good quality binoculars over the years, including the Columbia Back Country series, but I've never seen a pair of roof prism binoculars for under $200 that compares with the Columbia Timberline 8x42. They are bright and sharp across a high percentage of the field; the focusing is very fast and precise; the workmanship is excellent and promises to be quite durable; and the provided accessories (caps, strap and case) are first rate, especially the snap-in objective caps which should be supplied on all binoculars. The instrument attests to the quality optical manufacturing capabilities in China these days, and it deserves my highest recommendation.

Satisfied with the product

by Venkatesh Selvappan from Dallas,TX, USA on 2009-09-09
I am happy with the product. The clarity is perfect. The images are clear. The only reason I give 4 stars is because I wish Columbia added the optical cap to the big 56mm glasses. I find it hard to protect them or cover them when ever I use them. Other wise quality for the price is unbelievable.

Great Binocs, but buy 8 x 25's for bird watching.

by Mike C from Grass Valley, CA USA on 2008-06-20
I love these (light, bright, clear, great quality, reasonable price), but would get 8 x 25's if purchasing again, because the 9 power makes them a little jittery, especially when used from a kayak. You'll love 'em!

High quality product

Excellent optics. Compact, rugged design. Easy to adjust and focus except that diopter is a little difficult to adjust.
