Great binoculars, Not so great camera

by P2P Roxwell from Nashville, TN USA on 2010-08-03
I read the reviews on Amazon before and after buying this binoculars/camera combo. The optics of the binoculars are absolutely amazing and incredible. So clear and crisp. Worth the price I paid for it alone. But I really had higher expectations for the camera, as that was the primary reason for buying this, for my birdwatching. You have to be a good distance away from the subject to get any kind of good, clear pictures, which is possible. If it's anywhere closer than 49 feet (as stated in the manual), the subject in the pictures will be quite blurry and fuzzy. Unfortunately, my plan was to use the binoculars to see the birds in my front yard better and to capture/record them, but they were less than 49 feet away, apparently. The video quality is quite grainy/pixelated and small. Overall, I'm very happy with the binoculars, just not so much with the camera. If only you could capture exactly what you see through these great binoculars...

Poor. Just poor. Update: even poorer!

by David M. Dalby from Portland, OR on 2010-01-29
The binoculars are OK as binoculars, but are heavy and bulky with so-so eye relief and clarity. The camera menus on mine are in Asian characters and cannot be switched to English, Spanish, etc. The camera functions are therefore useless unless you can read Kanji. Or whatever. The display flickers and shows a low battery indication on two sets of brand-new batteries. The central focus dial is loose. Need I go on? This is a very poor quality item and ludicrously overpriced. Bushnell -or whomever owns the brand- should be ashamed.Update: Apparently Bushnell has no shame. The DOA binoculars were returned to Kansas for repair at my expense along with a ten-dollar check to cover their return shipping. Another 20.oo invested.Weeks later, a box appeared with a loosely packed and grubby model 118322 ImageView refurb rattling around inside. This is a cheaper, inferior model with no popup color viewing screen. The terse note enclosed tells me this is the closest model to mine, which is out of stock. The binocular optics are terrible with a fairly clear center and horrible blurring at the edge of your field of view. The center focus is gritty. The camera produces very poor image quality. It is slow to respond when taking a picture and therfore prone to blur. This is my last Bushnell purchase, period.

FAR EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS

by David M. Bowen from Conyers, GA on 2009-04-09
Having relied on the Bushnell reputation for quality, I expected my Bushnell Camera Bincular to be a superior product. Once it was received (within a few days), everyone who sees them are impressed and remarks the high quality of their make and the quality of photos produced. You cannot go wrong with this product.David in Conyers, GA

Fantastic up close photos and great binocular

by Rob from Lake Tapps, WA United States on 2007-12-08
These are great binoculars! The binoculars are of the quality you would expect from Bushnell. The digital cameera is fantastic. We went to Alaska and now hav wonderful up close photos af whales, eagles and a rarely seen black fox. Also we now have a wonderful close-up of Ichiro blown up and posted in our son's bedroom. The one downside is you have to hold it steady. Some of the photos in Alaska were taken while rafting and they were blurred. We aren't big bird watcher fans....but I imagine this would be fantastic for bird watchers! Great Binoculars! I highly recommend purchasing a gig or more storage card as you will need it for lots of photos. Download and working with the photos are a snap. This was fun and a great product.

This is a piece of junk!

by SweetP from Evergreen State, Seattle, WA on 2006-12-08
The second time I used it, two different pieces of the battery section, including the cover, broke: the metal sprial thing for one end of the battery just fell out when I opened the battery section; and the cover prong just broke off. Man, what a waste of $[...] plus dollars, and what a dissapointment.I bought it to look at birds. Well, unless the bird is five feet in front of you, you can forget about it.

Excellent opera glasses

by A. G. Miller from Newtown, PA, US on 2010-06-04
My new Bushnell Powerview 12X25 binoculars are excellent. They fit in a pocket and are totally adjustable and keep their focus. I use them for getting great views at the theatre and the ball game.

I can't focus it well.

by Mark from on 2010-05-16
However I tried and followed the direction, I get a blurred image and it tires my eyes out. If I close one eye and look, the image is good, but when look with both eyes, the image is very blurred and it hurts my eyes. I can't really use it for anything. I don't know why.

Nothing to rave about

by Capt Barb from North Carolina on 2010-04-02
You get what you pay for. These were very inexpensive and not all that great.

Bad then Good

by HPL from Cols, OH on 2010-03-09
When my binoc arrived, the optics were terrible. Vertical disintegration, no way to correct. Returned and exchanged and this pair is perfect. 12x is fine for my hands and the view is great. I miss my Minoltas (does anyone know where they went?), but these will do and the price is more than right.

Two lenses will not focus into one picture

by Robert Dickinson from Covington, In United States on 2010-02-09
Bought these as Christmas gift for my spouse, and right after Christmas we took a motorhome trip, not testing them until we were on the road. We both did everything possible to get the left and right sides to come together as one picture but to our great disappointment nothing helped. Although rated highly on Amazon by other customers, this was a defective pair of binoculars. Problem now is that we were on the road for over 30 days and now it's too late to return them for a full refund.

not waterproof

by Johnathan D. Smith from Palo Alto, CA on 2010-07-25
I bought one of these two years ago and was very happy with my purchase until recently when I used them in a heavy rain. The binoculars were never submerged or even fully exposed to the rain, but they obviously got wet. The lenses fogged up and the image stabilizer went haywire. It took two days of drying to fix it (I live in California so that was easy). The glasses look like they could take some rain, and I'd expect glasses to be pretty waterproof (esp. at this price) but these clearly aren't.

Clear Eyes

by walinda from on 2010-07-20
These binoculars bring the viewed object(s) up close, crisp and clear. The stabilization function makes a world of difference.

Great binoculars

by GeorgeR from on 2010-07-07
We bought these binoculars after using a friend's. Perhaps it's a comment on our previous binocular, but by comparison, these are spectacular! The image stabilization is a great help for these aging arms.

Works great

by Dave from Phoenix, AZ on 2010-05-10
I'll leave reviews of the optics and such to others who have more knowledge in the area. I bought these for the image stabilization, and that part works wonderfully. The view is the same as other binoculars I've had, until you press (and hold) the magic button. About a second later the jitteriness smooths out and the subtle details of the subject become crystal clear. As an example I used them from a ship looking at other distant ship traffic. They enabled me to read the ship names at a great distance where there was no hope without using the stabilization. These things work, I like 'em.

Very useful for daytime viewing

by Skoro from Texas on 2010-05-08
The Canon 10x30IS is compact and light enough that it's a good companion for hikers, birdwatchers, hunters, and outdoorsmen. It won't wear you out while carrying it in the field. The image stabilization works very well and is easy to engage. With stabilization, you'll be pleased at the amount of detail revealed that was formerly obscured by shakiness. A side by side comparison with any other handheld 10x bino will have you reaching for the Canon every time. Optically, it's excellent. No edge softness or color fringes. Definitely high quality glass and coatings. The focus wheel is solid and positive in operation. Interocular distance is easily adjusted. The neck strap is thin but comfortable. The small aperture (30mm) means that it performs well in daylight, but isn't really suitable for astronomy or night time viewing, except at well-lighted sporting events or concerts. For several years now I have owned Canon's 15x50IS binoculars for stargazing. It too is an excellent instrument and very well suited for its purpose. But its weight and bulk make it less than ideal for daytime nature study. The 10x30IS fills that bill very well.Highly recommended.

In a word... fantastic.

by Blak Slax from Los Angeles, CA on 2008-08-17
The Olympus Tracker 10-30x25 is the perfect companion for any activity. Provides clear, distortion-free optics in an intelligently designed package. Having searched for quite a while to find a compact binocular with an adjustable focal range; the design, features, functionality, ruggedness and rock-solid quality of the Olympus can't be beat. Deserves SIX stars in a sea of otherwise mediocre products.

I purchased this pair of binocular's to take to the Indy Car race in St. Petersburg last month. I wanted a light fairly inexpensive pair to use for racing and other sporting events. They have been a pleasant surprise. They are in fact light weight, provide good optics for the price and are nice and compact for carrying and storage.I think for the price, quality and practicality for their intended use, they are a good deal.

More for children's use

by Barbara A. Bloom from BANGOR, PA, US on 2010-08-09

Mildly Disappointed

by Ric M. Cascio from on 2010-07-25
OK, I guess. I don't know much about binoculars, except that there is a lot to see from the windows of my San Francisco apartment. My mother gave me a pair years ago in the 70s. I didn't realize they could be so small. These would be great for use in the theater or opera. The resolution is good, but it's difficult to get adjusted to your eyes. I would prefer a larger product.

Good at a reasonable cost

by J. Henningson from Berne, NY USA on 2010-07-19
These are very good for the money. They do not produce an extremely bright image compared to more expensive binocs, but they are better then the uber-cheap models ($13-$15) you can buy. The carrying cord is oddly arranged, but they are very light weight. If you are already hauling around a spotting scope and want a pair of binocs for on-the-fly viewing, these are quite acceptable. They would also work well in your carry-on if you are combining birding and business.

These don't last...

As good as stated.

by D. M. Pepper from on 2010-06-03
So far I have bought seven of these cameras .To date they all have preformed well with the exception of the last one I installed today. It had a cystal clear picture on it during the day but tonight has a little RF drift that is rolling over the screen.I had these professionally installed so it could be that this camera was installed with some part of the connection not shielded well.I will call the installer tomorrow to see.I have one that hasn't been installed yet so actually the only review I can give on these is on six of the ones installed. I give these camera's an A+ for performance and price.Better than most and maybe as good or not as good as higher priced. Not sure because I have only owned on very high priced camera.Price on that one was 3000.00 but it wss a ptz and I expected it to be way better .Anyway over all the camera's are as stated in their decripition and overall im delighted with them ,so much I bought one to start with and so far have bought an additional six.

Fire Hazard

by Philip Fleming from Orlando, FL, US on 2010-04-07
When I opened the box and started to put the camera components together I smelled the tell-tale odor of an electrical short circuit. As the power cord exits the transformer to power the camera, the insulation was torn allowing the cooper to be exposed. This allowed the two wires to cross and short circuit. I contacted the manufacturer and they sent me a new transformer. This one also had the cooper exposed as it exited the strain relief. I contact them again, they sent another transformer that had the same manufacturing flaw. They seemed to have drawn the line at replacing the faulty transformer only twice. This is the response I got from Daniel P at customer support:"I have been informed that all the adapters for this product will have some copper coil that is visible through slots in the actual adapter."Evidently they don't understand that the cooper that's exposed is outside the protection of the transformer case making this a fire hazard.

Good only if you schedule the activity you are trying to catch.

I bought one of these due to increased overall "hope and change" related criminal activity lately. I read the reviews on Amazon and pulled the trigger. I was initially blown away. The picture is excellent during daylight and way better than expected at night. I have this teamed with the SVAT CVP800 mini DVR. All was well.....for a while. After about two weeks, the unit would just stop producing video. If unplugged, then plugged back up, it will begin to work again. But only temporarily. Sometimes it will work fine for four or five days, and sometimes just a couple of hours. Unplug it, plug it back up, cross your fingers, and hope for the best. Once it stops working, it will stay dead until it is powered down, then back up. So, if you can schedule the criminal mischief around your property to coincide with the times this thing works, it is an excellent purchase. Otherwise, it is just one of those fake/dummy cameras. I probably just got a lemon and could be more forgiving, if it weren't for SVAT's customer service. I called them, hoping to hear something like "Send it back. When we receive it, we'll ship you another." However, when contacted, they gave me a "return authorization" number and said "we will evaluate it, determine if it is covered under warranty, repair it and send it back in four to six weeks." "If it is determined to not be warranty related, we will repair it for fifty dollars an hour." Wow, thanks! It's obvious that SVAT is concerned about my happiness with their product. NOT! I guess I'll send the thing back for them to tinker with, once I buy a camera (not an SVAT) that actually works. Anyone have a recommendation for a more reliable camera? In the meantime, I'll just hope any video-worthy activity that happens around here, happens when the CV31 isn't on one of its many "coffee breaks".
