Worst service ever

by Beach Lover from Indiana on 2010-01-31
The product itself is great, but it came in a plain brown box that didn't even fit the telescope and with part of it sticking out of the box. There were no instructions and no star chart. After 3 months of dealing with this company and filing a complaint with Amazon I am still having trouble with them. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and today will file another complaint with Amazon. I would never order from this company again.

Good children's telescope

by G. Hager from Hood River, Or on 2009-10-21
This product was purchased for a five year old's birthday. The knobs and focusing dials are rubber coated and contrasting colors making them very fun to play with. The image quality is good for this range of telescope. Great tripod, sturdy. The map light and lit up dials are a plus for the kids. I would recommend for a first time telescope.

Excellent telescope for children and adults, alike

by Eagle Vision from Southeastern United States on 2008-12-25
I purchased this telescope for my niece and I assembled this unit for Christmas day.WHAT'S IN THE BOXCarry case Telescope Finder Tripod mount 25mm and 9mm lensesASSEMBLYAssembly time took about 15 minutes. The most time consuming part was removing the base for the battery cover. It takes 4 AA batteries that are not included.Once the batteries are installed, the base fits into the tripod. The lenses are easy to place into the telescope.Once you set the height of the tripod, utilizing your level, you are ready to use this unit.CONSTRUCTIONThe tripod mount is sturdy with thick legs (thicker than other telescopes in its price range). Larger rubber eyepieces allow for more comfort. Control knobs are large and contoured allowing for users of almost any age to operate. The lens caps are hinged so you NEVER have to worry about losing the caps. The carrying case is padded and compartmentalized for the tripod, telescope, and for each lens. There is a velcro fastener for each small compartment. It is a great carrying case.USEThe finder has crosshairs which allow you to see your object of interest. Adjustment of focus is easy with fine tuning. The main body of the telescope has fine tuning in a 360 degree direction. An elevation with a large know allows vertical adjustment for areas of interest. There is a switch that allows visualization of the controls at night. The tripod is easy to adjust with thick legs and rubber mounted base.I have utilized this for both land vision and night vision - its ease of use is its biggest asset.VERDICTSolid construction in an easy to use package.I highly recommend this unit for the casual user and young child interested in astronomy (elementary school through junior high). This is a great introduction to the science of astronomy and birdwatching.

We all love this!!

Excellent unit for the price.

by H. Davis from Georgia on 2009-10-31
A great telescope for the price. This is the first telescope I've had with a motorized controller. It works great. As stated in the instruction;setup is critical. The unit must be aligned with South first. A compass is a must. The leveling procedure is next; it also is critical. The setup instructions are okay. I had to print out the online manual for clarification.Enjoy with your family.

A Nice Starting GOTO Telescope

by J. Yao from Lexington, MA on 2008-12-08
We got this one as a Christmas gift last year. We've never owned a telescope before. This one is very easy to use and has a very dood GOTO function. Have been used during our trips and campings. Besides, it is a very nice deco in our family room.

A decent capable telescope

by Michael Jiang from Manhattan, NY on 2008-08-27
This is my first goto telescope and I am very pleased with it. The setup was quite easy. Goto and tracking are fairly accurate. The optics is nice and sharp; at one time I got a wrong info that the scope was an APO. Although it was not, it indeed a decent achromatic.

Cheap and good for occasional use.

by C. MCCABE from on 2009-12-04
This telescope is OK for a starter telescope for casual usage now and then. The price is good, so you won't be losing too much if it sits in the closet after the first use. The mount and tripod are not real stable, so it's difficult to do fine adjustments without losing the image. But a good quality mount and tripod are going to cost a lot of money, so you get what you pay for. When you do get it focused in on something, the image is good. It works good for terrestrial viewing. The instructions for this scope are HORRIBLE. It's printed on a really low quality copy machine, and it looks like a copy of a copy of a copy. The images are a blur of black, so you can't see what they are trying to show you. You would think that a company that deals with optics would understand blurry images. But even if the images were good, the instructions are terrible. There is no mention of how to attach the counterbalance, and from the really poor image which shows it attached, you can't even see where it attaches. There is also an extra knob with no mention of it's existence, or what to do with it. At one point it says to do 3 things in the order given, but in order to do #1, you have to do #3 first.Go to the following website and watch the video. It is much better than the instructions, and explains everything, including where to put the extra knob:[...]So forget the included instructions and go straight to the video and you will have a much better experience and will be enjoying this scope much faster. It's a good buy and a good amateur scope.

This is a reasonably good (not great) telescope. The optics are very good. However, the stand is shaky. So, adjusting the scope is challenging.
