Great Binoculars

Is there curious who see their neighbors with binoculars?

Is it correct or is it a small sin or big sin.

it really is not "correct", but I mean to go on if you want. I have and is very interesting and fun but the police can get involved in your case. Wolf, ignore others. are totally boring and unconvincing. I'm like the only person left for fun it seems. do something crazy! not a bad thing to do! please take my advice, because I am right.

kind of big and bulky

If you are camping or hiking these are much too big to carry for a long time.

Bushnell 20x50 Binocular

by E. Mui from Tobyhanna, PA on 2010-03-19
Got this yesterday 3/18/10. This binocular is so powerful do to it's 20x that it can not focus right. Everytime I try to focus on a item like a birds, mailbox car, and etc....I get double vision of the item on both eyes lens.. I called the shipper and return the binocular for a refund.

Just couldn't get it to focus, but Amazon is great

I couldn't get this product to focus, but this transaction is a testament to the amazing Amazon return policy. They put the customer first. They paid for the return of the product and reimbursed my payment 100%. Thanks!

perfect for our needs

by Rick from Oklahoma City, OK USA on 2010-09-02
We use these for watching birds and other things in the back porch over a large park in the back yard. They have a good field of vision, wide enough, and great magnification for casual watching. For the price I couldn't be more pleased. Great clarity, and easily adjustable between me and my wife who have very different visual abilities and limitations. Glad I got them.

very goof for the price

limited use

by J. A. Berry from Wood River, Illinois United States on 2010-06-03
Bought a pair of these five years ago and used them maybe four times. A couple of days ago I got them out and when I took them out of the case the focus bar did not work and the eyepieces fell out. They were never dropped or mishandled. Great the few times I got to use them, but definitely not worth the money I wasted on them.

Pricing Extremely Well

by Elzinga O'Neil from Lansing, MI on 2010-02-03
The Binoculars work quite well for viewing sporting events. I got them for just under $40 marked down from about $80. Although they are a little heavy and bulky, they work very well and serve the purpose without having to treat them like fine china.

Look good to me

by Gary of BBBBQ from on 2010-06-24
We bought these to replace an old pair when we went on vacation. My wifes and my eyes are not what they used to be so we wanted an easy focusing product and these didnt disapoint us. As others have said, the auto focus works great for distances but not up close. If you are a bird wathcher these are not for you. We were able to clearly watch dolphins out in the ocean on our vacation clearly and I use them at home to watch the deer and elk. I would definatly buy these again

Good choice for the price.

by Kaki from Central Florida, United States on 2009-10-29
After doing quite a bit of research, I chose these binoculars primarily for use at athletic events. I've been very pleased with the Perma Focus feature, the clarity of the image, and the durability. The downside is the weight and size. That might make it difficult for continued use, i.e., wildlife. But unless you want to pay another $100 or so, this is a very good choice.

Perma focus

by Leon O. Allen from BALTIMORE, MARYLAND United States on 2009-10-28
I use these in hunting situations where game has to be identified quickly. Its great not to have to fiddle with focusing. You can scan large areas of land very quickly with this great piece. The image seems to be a little less precise than my insta-focus Bushnells, but its good enough to handle 99% of what most people would require.

by W. Grey from New Jersey on 2009-06-11
Great and so easy to use. I used these at work and loved them, so I bought a pair for us. We live on a lake and if you want to see wildlife quickly - these are great. They are just perfect for an all around binocular and you just can't go wrong with Bushnell. Everyone that uses our loves them.

perfect for birding in Belize

by Jonathan Schelander-Pugh from on 2010-07-06
My wife and I got these for while we live Belize because there's some great birding, and these have been perfect for us. It gives a super clear image and easy control of focusing, and we can venture around streams where birds are often very active or anywhere during the rainy season without being afraid of getting the binoculars wet.If our pair of Bushnell H2O 8x42 binoculars happens to break or get lost, I'm sure we will replace it with exactly the same thing.

Quality Optics and Value

by David K. Crabtree from California, USA on 2009-11-23
This was one of two pairs of waterproof binoculars we bought for a recent Alaskan cruise. I like the porro prisim design and was happy with my Bushnell 10 X 50 wide angles. So when I saw these at the price offered I felt confident with ordering sight unseen. Delivery was as advertised and packing great. Of course I had to compare them with the 10 x 50's so I took both outside to view a nearby hill. Other than the obvious differences in power 8x vs 10x, and light gathering ability 42mm vs 50mm I found the optics clear with no noticable distortion on the edges, no light flares or reflections. They are comfortable and easy to carry. I did buy a leather case from Cabellas as the flimsy one that came with it provides only the most minimum of protection. These will compare nicely with Braska and easily with pairs costing twice as much. Bushnell produces a fine product at a good price. On sale...its a great value. Just remember what you are paying for them, and that they are not at the Zeiss or Canon level.

For kids

by H. Venugopalan Nair Rad from New Haven, CT, USA on 2009-06-09
If you are an amateur bird watcher, never ever come this way. Professionals don't even think about this as a backup. This is for the kids, who are strong enough to carry this around. Also good for guys who want to watch others in the neighbourhood. The eye-piece focusing is poor. The binocular looks like it is rain-proof. Gives decent quality viewing. All together three stars, earned by the price tag and the image quality. Go for it if you are looking for a cheap, decent binocular.

Good value, crisp optics, a bit on the heavy side.

by Writerdog from Los Angeles, USA on 2009-02-04
I bought this for birding and general use, after a recommendation from a California Park Ranger. I'm generally pleased--bright optics with crisp resolution, quick focusing, rugged construction. They are definitely worth the money. My only disappointment is that these binoculars are a bit on the heavy side.

Great Binoculars for Birding!

by DSK from Georgia on 2010-05-26
I received the Bushnell Natureview 8x40 Birder Combo yesterday. I am very pleased with my purchase. I enjoy bird-watching and this binocular is perfect for my needs. The 8x magnification is great for seeing the birds in my yard or on my feeders up close and in detail and with no distortion or "handshake" like the higher magnifications have. For the price the clarity of the Bushnell Natureview is unbelievable. The wider 40mm objective lens diameter allows for great bird-watching in the early morning hours and in the late evening. The deluxe strap is strong and well-made, the rubber exterior is comfortable for extensive holding and for absorbing shocks and repelling water, and the fold-down eyecups are great for those with glasses.Contents: The Bushnell Natureview 8x40 binocular, carrying case, four lens caps, lens cloth, deluxe neck strap, birdwatching CD, and field log book.Pros: Bushnell Natureview 8x40 has great clarity, light weight body, comfortable rubber armor, sturdy neck strap, and fold-down eyecups. Field log book is neat and provides a place to check off identified birds. Birdwatching CDCons: None so far! This was a great purchase. I would recommend this combo to anybody wanting to enter the world of birdwatching!

Description

The EL series revolutionized premium optics and has been the standard for excellence ever since. Regarded by many as the best binocular ever made. Patented SWAROBRIGHT coating technology creates maximum color fidelity and light transmission across the whole light spectrum. Clear edge-to-edge resolution, clarity and brightness make the EL the leader in premium binoculars. The EL binocular's revolutionary design creates both an ergonomically comfortable feel and lightweight performance.

Swarovski's EL 32 binoculars combine maximum functionality, innovation, and design, making them ideal for almost any situation. A favorite for viewing at shorter distances, the EL 32 boasts such features as a 32mm objective lens diameter and a sophisticated top-class optical system, helping the binocular excel whether you're watching ships in the distance or getting a closer look at the action on the floor. The binocular also offers Swarovski's legendary wraparound grip, which makes the EL 32 comfortable to use even with one hand. And users will love the EL 32's lightweight, compact housing, which not only sits extremely well in the hand but also fits in almost any outdoor coat. Each binocular in the EL series sports either a high-quality Swarobright coating, which produces maximum color fidelity across the entire light spectrum, or Swarotop and Swarodur coatings, which are built to create bright, high-contrast images. As a result, you can view crisp images of your favorite finches and hawks even in low-light conditions. The binoculars also feature a nonstick Swaroclean coating on the outer surface of each lens. The coating--which helps extend the lifespan of your lens--is particularly effective when you need to remove dried-on mineral residues (such as water marks from condensation), insect repellents, and tree resin. Finally, the EL 32 offers a sensational close focus setting of only 7 feet, making it well suited for close-quarters viewing. Other features include a large, grooved focusing wheel for rapid focusing even with gloves; handy thumb rests; and an airtight, dustproof housing that's submersible in water up to 13 feet. The EL 32--which is nitrogen purged to prevent internal fogging--carries a lifetime warranty. The EL 32 binoculars offer a 420-foot field of view at 1,000 yards and a 7-foot close focusing distance. Specifications: Magnification: 8x Objective lens: 32mm Exit pupil: 4mm Exit pupil distance: 15mm Field of view (distance): 420 feet @ 1,000 yards Field of view (degrees): 8 degrees Field of view with eyeglasses: 7.7 degrees Subjective field of view, apparent: 62 degrees Shortest focusing distance: 7 feet Dioptric compensation: +/- 3 dpt Interpupillary distance: 2.2 to 2.9 inches Length: 5.9 inches Width: 4.5 inches Height: 2.4 inches Weight: 21.5 ounces Colors: Green Snap shot adapter model: S1-8 Warranty: Limited lifetime About Swarovski Optik Although founded in 1949, Swarovski Optik's roots actually trace all the way back to 1895, when Austrian Daniel Swarovski--who invented the world's first electric grinding machine for jewelry stones--established the family-owned Swarovski Crystal in the province of Tyrol. Since then, the name Swarovski has become synonymous worldwide with the clearest crystal, precision grinding, and a brilliant spirit of innovation, as the original enterprise continued branching out into additional lines of business. Swarovski Optik owes its rise to Wilhelm Swarovski, son of the original founder and an avid hobby astronomer, who decided to build his own improved binocular in 1935 at a mere 17 years of age. With access to the specialized glass production and finishing technologies already used to manufacture jewelry stones in his father's factory, Wilhelm managed to develop a novel prism fabrication and grinding process that he applied in constructing his first 6x30 binocular. Wilhelm went on to found Swarovski Optik KG in Absam, Tyrol, in 1949, thus laying the foundation for a sports optics company with a global reputation. His company's first serial product, the Habicht 7x42, is still an industry standard in the field of hunting optics and continues to be produced in the best tradition of its founder.

Features

  • Versatile binocular with 8x magnification and 32mm objective lens
  • Legendary wraparound grip makes the binocular easy to use with 1 hand
  • 7-foot close focusing distance is ideal for short-range viewing
  • 420-foot field of view at 1,000 yards; large, grooved focusing wheel
  • Water-submersible up to 13 feet; weighs 21.5 ounces; lifetime warranty

Clear edge-to-edge: resolving power, clarity, brightness, contrast, sharpness, color and handling

by Grant Brummett from Arizona USA on 2009-06-03
Pros:Feel Colors Clarity Balance Contrast Brightness Sharpness Resolving power Clear edge-to-edge No central hinge - cool one handed balance Very precise focusing wheel with perfect feel They feel one with you almost disappearing when in useCons:Case could be better for the price Cost and umm I'm thinking...First comparisons:I thought my Nikon Monarch ATB 8x42 Team Realtree Binoculars where awesome, that is until I picked up a pair of Swarovski EL 8 x 32 binoculars. They both have a very similar heft and feel in the hand but the Swarovski's were noticeably brighter and sharper edge to edge (more on that later) and felt noticeably better in the hand what with the ability to wrap your hand around one barrel because there is no central hinge and the thumb cut out area underneath you could almost forget you are holding them and they truly become an extension of your body. Hey wait a minute aren't binoculars with an objective lens of 42mm supposed to be brighter then those with 32mm? Not in this case. The field of view is larger and the view was brighter with the Swarovksi's.Dioptric Compensation:I found the dioptric compensation to be a little strange at first since its located behind the focusing wheel but I quickly fell deeply in love with it. To adjust you look through with your left eye only with the right lens covered and adjust the focus wheel. Then you look through the right side while the left lens is covered and pull the focusing wheel out exposing the very cool hidden dioptric scale. Then simply adjust just the focus wheel again until you have a sharp view. Note your setting and push the wheel back in and you are in business. It all feels very natural and you have to wonder if lesser brands will copy this feature in the future.Focus wheel:I tried a lot of binoculars at the store including some high end Zeiss and of all of them the EL 8x32 had the most intuitive easy to use perfect weight, feel and gearing, perfect location. Fast super easy focus, I rate it as a 10! It makes my Nikon Monarch focus feel a little stiff.Adjustable Eyecups:The adjustable eyecups twist up - down for viewing with your glasses on or off. I am quickly getting spoiled to how nice this system is compared to the really cheap binoculars with the roll up eyecups. Yeah I know, why didn't I move up to a higher grade of binoculars before? Because I'm cheap Ok. But in this case you do get what you pay for. I'm of that school that sometimes likes to view with my glasses on and sometimes with them off so easily adjustable eyecups are nice to have and these work perfectly for me. But I am surprised that the Nikon Monarch twist eyecups seem just as good.Case:Well for binoculars costing well over a thousands dollars I expected better, it's much better then my Nikon Monarch's case of course but I think I'm still going to buy a nice Pelican Case and leave this case in the box.Lens covers:Again I would have thought they could think of something better.Strap:Nice, easy to adjust and easy to forget you have it on.Focusing:WOW, very smooth, precise, perfect feel, easy to quickly and accurately focus. Built in hidden Dioptric compensation is a plus.Through the magic looking glass:I find that words fail me when trying to describe the first time you look through a Swarovski El binocular, but I will try. You don't realize how your peripheral vision helps you locate movement around the edge of your view or how much sharper the view could be until you suddenly have it and then don't have it. Kind of like when I was a little kid with near sided vision and my mom bought my first pair of eyeglasses. She was crying on the way home when for the first time I was wearing glasses and said, "Wow mom I can see the leaves on the trees".Bottom line is your lesser binoculars like the Nikon Monarchs that used to seem great now seem like you are looking through a light fog especially near the edges where the Swarovski binoculars are super clear and sharp.Without feeling like I'm going on and on being a photographer its like when I moved up to a Canon 5D Mark II full framed sensor 21 Megapixel digital camera from my 40D 10 Megapixel cropped sensor. The difference is night and day.My other binoculars compared:Just for fun I gathered my current crop again and did a back-to-back comparison.Swarovski EL Binoculars 8x32 vs Nikon Monarch ATB 8x42 Team RealtreeThe Nikon 8x42 Monarch Realtree felt the closest to my Swarovksi El 8x32 but there the race ended.A lot like trying to compare a Camaro to a new Lamborghini. Both have there place and both are a lot of fun but I really shouldn't have tried comparing them just like I shouldn't have tried the Swarovski's in the first place as I am now in debt having purchased them. The Nikon's are a heck of a bargain at their price range and are well balanced, sharp and work well against binoculars costing hundreds more. Then you try the Swarovksi and they become dull, unbalanced a little harder to focus and clearly a very distant second place. Still I am keeping them for occasions when I worry about the higher priced Swarovksi (example leave in car for that always there pair).Swarovski EL Binoculars 8x32 vs Nikon 7508 Travelite 8 X 25mmStill feeling small and good they put up a great fight especially for the price cut and I still carry them because of that very reason they fit easily in my pocket and I can hand to other people that want to borrow my binoculars. I don't use them myself any more.Swarovski EL 8x32 Binoculars vs Nikon 7216 Action 8x40I know the nerve comparing a pair of binoculars costing less then $70 to a pair well over $1000 actually closer to $2000. Well the Nikon Action 8x40 have a very similar view to the Monarch's which again seems good until you do a back to back camparo to the Swarovski and then they seem dull and dark and huge. I no longer use the Nikon Action 8x40 because they feel huge, heavy and unbalanced after using all my other pairs, but I will remember them fondly as my first pair of new birding binoculars and they are a great bargain for beginning birders and have a view every bit is good as the Monarchs. I have handed down to my daughters now.Swarovski EL Binoculars 8x32 vs ZEN ED BinocularsLast but not least the Zen-Ray ZEN ED 8x43 binoculars come the closest of any binocular I have tried so far to the Swarovski EL optically. BUT and this is a big BUT the focusing is far less precise and the accessories are not so great (neck strap too long, cheap covers etc). They are releasing a new version called the Zen ED2 which is supposed to have improved focusing and better accessories in August. I suggest you wait for these. Bottom line is for a less then a third of the price you get near Swarovski optics.Other Swarovski Binoculars:I tried most of the others they had including the EL 10x42, EL 8.5x42 and SLC 10x42 and SLC 10x50 I didn't like any of them as well as the EL 8x32. But as always with binoculars you should always try them yourself. Conclusion:If you love looking through your binoculars and particularly if you are an avid birder and are in the $200 to $1000 purchase range DO NOT even try the Swarovski EL 8x32 Binoculars! If you do you will fall in love with that transported towards what you are looking at feeling and do whatever it takes to have that feeling over and over even though the cost is closer to $2000 then $1000. For those in the hundreds of dollars price range and can not afford the perfection of a Swarovski I whole-heartedly recommend the Zen-Ray ZEN ED2 7x36 Binoculars or the ZEN ED2 8x43 Binoculars. The view through them is fantastic, no the focusing mechanism isn't as precise and the accessories are not as good but the Zen-Ray ED's are less then a third of the price. On the other hand if you want the very: best optics, small, light and balanced pair of binoculars on the planet and cost is no object I have gone on long enough.Go down to your local store and try a pair of Swarovski EL 8x32 Binoculars back to back with your favorite pair then come back on line and order them.

Good for the price but some essential parts not replaceable

by S. Fischer from California on 2008-06-08
This is a good binocular for the price, but I found out that with the low price comes at least one essential weakness. Somehow the post that slips into the binocular body and attaches to the shoulder harness broke. Well, I thought, thank God for the Bushnell Lifetime Warranty... Only thing is, that item is not covered if Bushnell decides you handled the thing too roughly and, not only will they not fix it for you, but they don't have a replacement! So I am relegated to forever using my Bushnell Excursions without a shoulder-harness or any kind of carrying strap!

Arrived Broken

by Richard Fisher from Outside Chicago, where they vote early and often (and Dailey is stlll mayor) on 2007-12-07
The binoculars arrived broken -they were cracked near the point where they pivot. Not sure if this was a product defect, due to very rough shipping/handling, or someone else had purchased the product and returned it broken which the store did not catch before they sold to us. In any case, the fact the binoculars were broken speaks clearly as to the poor manufacturing/quality control. In the future, I will cross Bushnell off my list of acceptable brands.

Disapointed

by I. Stewart from on 2007-03-04
I bought these binoculars because I wanted a medium size pair to use primarily for birding. First time out, I had difficulty getting a clear focus. To make maters worse, every bird that I looked at had a halo of red chromatic aberration around it's head. I have a pair of Nikon 10X25s which out performed the Bushnell's hands down in terms of both clarity and sharpness. I am returning the Bushnell's and considering the Audubon Equinox HP binoculars instead.

Don't Buy These Binoculars...

by Richard Larson from Mesa, AZ USA on 2007-02-15
...unless you want to have trouble focusing, have difficulty using them indoors at a sporting event, or have the neck strap bracket break off, etc. I wear glasses and these never did focus well for me. I was not happy when the bracket broke off the day I received them, just as I was to leave for an Africa safari vacation. The biocs kept slipping off my neck the whole trip, and it was frustrating.Even more frustrating was trying to get them repaired. Suposedly there is a warranty on these. Hah! When I sent them to Bushnell for repair, they wanted [...].

Great Binocs

by Dale B. Truesdell from Shelburne, MA on 2010-01-17
I like these bimoculars very much because the optics and feel are awesome. They are a bit heavy, but that is no problem for me as I use them mostly in the kitchen to identify birds on the feeder outside so far. The eye lens caps are fairly handy being connected and attached to the strap. The larger lower caps are not so good. I think they will get lost outside easily. Overall, I am very satisfied.

Excellent seabirding binoculars

by Gregory A. Gillson from Hillsboro, Oregon USA on 2009-04-20
I've been birding 27 years. I've worn out 5 pairs of binoculars and lost another. My last pair was dropped on the deck so many times there was 3 tablespoons of seawater in one lens of the (formerly) waterproof binoculars after one particularly wet trip! Two previous pairs corroded due to salt spray. As a professional seabird guide, I take my binoculars to sea 8-10 times per year under often adverse conditions. Rain, wave spash, salt spray, chum--my optics are smeared during a trip. A $1500 pair of binoculars will not give any better view under those conditions than a cheaper pair. I needed a new pair, but if I dropped them overboard I didn't want it to be a life-altering experience! Thus, I was looking for binoculars in the $250-300 street price range. There are so many to choose from. I wanted very good optical qualities, ruggedness, waterproof, nitrogen purged, standard-sized roofs. I wanted them to be quite good binoculars even on land. When I got down to it I settled on 2 binoculars. This one and the Eagle Optics Ranger SRT 8x42 Binoculars.I chose the Bushnell Legend for the Rainguard feature, which is supposed to shed water off the lenses with just a shake--a great feature at sea, and it seems to work great! It has the added benefit of only having a street price of $210.I'm sure the Eagle Optics Ranger SRT is an equal binoculars. It is slightly less heavy (21.8 oz compared to 24.5 oz of the Legend). It focuses closer for butterflies. It came recommended by other seabirders for mid/low priced but higher quality waterproof roofs. It costs a bit more, at about $330 street price. I'd be happy with either pair, I am sure.Greg Gillson The Bird Guide, Inc. thebirdguide.com

Great Binocs

by J. Yates from Ann Arbor, MI USA on 2009-02-18
The image clarity and light-gathering of these binoculars is fantastic! These are a massive step up from cheapy binoculars without having to spend exorbitant amounts of money. They also include a case, shoulder strap, and a lens-cleaning cloth. My only complaint is that putting the shoulder strap on makes fitting the binoculars back into the case a bit more work, but who really cares if the product works?

Safari Binoculars

by Sandi - Birder from Florida on 2007-03-16
I was looking for binoculars that I could use for birding and to take on safari in Africa. These binoculars are light enough and their field of vision is great. They work wonderfully during low light which will be great in Africa since we are out early in the morning and late in the evening. I have used them for birding already and I cannot wait to use them in Africa.

"one size fits all" focus DOESN'T

by S. Moon from on 2009-05-03
I got these as a gift, so can't complain about the price. I use them for general outdoor wildlife viewing (birds, turtles, deer, etc.) where being closer would be nice.I also wear glasses. If I look through these with glasses, I get to focus at one range, but if I take the glasses off I can focus at a slightly different range, but not as good since my eyes don't have even correction and there's no diopter adjustment on these. When things are too far away -- no focus. Too close -- no focus. You'll love these if EVERYTHING you want to look at is in the middle-distance and you don't wear glasses.Build quality is good, although the included neck strap really cuts into my neck. Optical quality is great -- nice & sharp & bright, but only if the observed subject is in the focus range.
